NHS CONFIRMS VAPE PENS ARE SAFER THAN SMOKING

We often talk about a trials being conducted to identify the health benefits of e-cigarettes over regular cigarettes. Today we have more results to share, and they’re positive. Significantly lower levels of harmful chemicals and toxic elements have been found in e-cigarette users following a trial month of using the vape pens. The e-cigarettes do contain nicotine, but also contain none of the harmful chemicals found in cigarettes, such as tar or carbon monoxide, part of a process called “Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT).

There has been a great deal of discussion in recent years about the effects of vaping v smoking and if vaping is really the “safer” option. Kevin Fenton, who is the National Director of Health and Wellbeing at Public Health England, was quoted as having said ‘this study provides further evidence that switching to e-cigarettes can significantly reduce harm to smokers, with greatly reduced exposure to carcinogens and toxins”. The participants were localised in the Greater London area, including places such as the University College in London, and the Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, with funding provided by Cancer Research UK.  Viable participants had to be either a non smoker who hadn’t used a tobacco product for six months, or a current smoker who had at least five cigarettes a day for six months. The participants attended a clinic at the beginning of the research, where they answered a questionnaire, and gave breath, saliva and urine samples to identify the starting levels of nicotine and toxic chemicals in the body.

The results showed that there was a lower level of cancer causing chemicals and other toxic elements in the participants at the end of the study, which lead scientists to conclude that ‘Long-term NRT-only and e-cigarette-only use, but not dual use of NRTs or e-cigarettes with combustible cigarettes, is associated with substantially reduced levels of measured carcinogens and toxins relative to smoking only combustible cigarettes’.  The findings of the study point to the conclusion that an e-cigarette is a safer alternative to smoking, providing nicotine but also reducing the amount of toxic chemicals entering the body, giving a safer option to those trying to quit smoking, or anyone looking for a healthier alternative.

While this is just another study, the fact that the NHS now officially recognises the health benefits that using a vape pen brings is extremely encouraging for the e-cigarette community. It will hopefully mark the beginning of the end of some of the stigma associated with vaping, and hopefully promote others to begin using the e-cigarette as a way to transition from normal cigarettes. Infinite Vapour is pleased to stock a range of electronic cigarettes to assist with that transition, with a variety of mouth-watering flavours and styles to suit all preferences.
